news and features photography
For almost ten years I have been working as a press photographer. Starting out working for local papers like the Rutherglen Reformer and the Kirkintilloch Herald. I soon moved on to the national press working full time for a press agency and went freelance in 2007.
I have had pictures published in newspapers and magazines worldwide, including the front page of the Sunday Times, Daily Record, Sunday Mail and the Evening Times.
Most notably I was nominated for young photographer of the year at the 2006 Scottish Press Photography awards and wining celebrity picture of the year at the same awards in 2007. This was for a picture that I took of the lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin, sleeping on the ferry from Arran to Ardrossan.
Being based in Glasgow I mostly cover the central belt of Scotland but I have covered storeys all over the UK as well as the Republic of Irland and Monaco in the south of France.
Whenever I am asked to do take pictures at a wedding for a couple, I like to take my press photography experience with me to deliver a set of images that would be as at home in an editorial feature as they would in a wedding album. I aproach wedding photography the same way I would undertake an assignment for a newspaper. On the day I am always on the look out for moments that will help to tell the story of the day.
