One of the best reasons to get a family portrait done, is to get a print to give as a present. Mums, Dad’s, grandparents, Aunts and uncles love to see great portraits of their loved ones.
That was the reason this family got in touch with myself as they were looking for a portrait photographer, to take pictures of their kids to give to their Gran as a present.
As the family were from the south side of Glasgow so I suggested we meet in Queens Park, which was local to them and It is one of my favourite parks.
Parks, as well as beaches, are my favourite locations for photo shoots to take place, so I was really looking forward to this one.
On the day the weather was perfect with an over cast sky. This nice soft light is perfect for pictures. People think sunny days are best but sunlight just gives me problems by making everything too contrasted. So things were looking good.
On the day we met up I started by doing a set up posed shot.
This looked okay, but within a few minutes the kids started to get restless. I decided to let them run around and play, this suited me fine as It gave me great candid shots. The kids were happy as well as they got to run around and have fun without realising it was getting me great photographs!.
One of the kids was only a baby and so that I could include them all, I got them all together and asked the older kids to take the baby for a walk in his buggy. This got them all interacting with each other and I was able to stay away from the boring posed shots.
Two of the kids were brother and sister so I wanted to get some nice shots of them for their mum and dad, and even got them in for a few pictures. The little boy had had his wheetabix that morning and I just couldn’t keep him still for anything longer than a few seconds. While taking a picture of the whole family, he shot off on his scooter which made a great picture.
Next I got the brother and sister together having fun with each other. These were my favourite shots from the shoot.
Lastly I got all three together for one last group shot. All three kids were great and were lots of fun.
Doing a portrait shoot outdoors means that the kids get a day out, have a great time playing and I get great shots.
