Last October I got to cover the first of four winter weddings I’ve been asked to do recently. It took place at the Torrance Hotel in East Kilbride.
As usual I visited the venue before hand to work out where the best locations will be for photography. On arrival I could see It is a very modern hotel which is great, though there wasn’t much available light inside. I did a recce of the surrounding area and found a beautiful park nearby which would be perfect for pictures. As the day got nearer the forecast was for rain and sure enough the weather man was right. This was no big deal though as overcoming difficult lighting situations is part and parcel of my job and where experience helps the most.
The Big Day
On the day I had hardly any arrival shots to do as most of the guests had stayed in the hotel the night before. So the main shots I did first were of the bride in the honeymoon suite. The room though small, was fantastic for pictures. There was a large window with great diffused light coming through which worked great in black and white.
The function room where the service took place was great and very modern. It had lights and mirrors in the ceiling which created a great atmosphere for the ceremony.
As It was raining outside I did all the group shots inside. Even though I always prefer to do these shots outside, I felt they worked really well.
Next It was time to do pictures of the couple. As I couldn’t go outside I was limited as to what I could do. The honeymoon suite turned out be be a perfect location. Again I used the large window as well as the spiral staircase to great effect. I loved how these pictures turned out and they will be in my portfolio for a long time.
I’ve never seen a couple as in love as Pablo and Emma, you could really see the admoration in their eyes for each other. This was really touching to see. Even after everyone else joined the newly wed couple on the dance floor for the first dance, It was as if know one else was there.
