One of my favourite things to document is news. On Saturday I got the chance to cover the Great Scottish runs, Super Saturday event in George Square, Glasgow.
The run took place over the weekend from Friday 4th -6th October. On Friday there was the Schools challenge, on Saturday it was the Super Saturday event and on the Sunday it was the main event 10k and half marathon.
Super Saturday had children, from toddlers to teens, take to the streets in various running events, all starting in George Square. Eilish McColgan was the honorary starter for all races.
The day itself was great with lots of opportunities for pictures all over the square. From the little toddlers to serious competitors in their teens giving there all to get a good time. With an event like this I try to capture the whole event to tell the story, not just capture all the running action.
The first event of the day was the junior run (2.5k, open to 9-15 year olds) additional honorary starters included Freya Ross and Kenyan, Joseph Birech. Joseph’s career highlight was winning a bronze medal at the 10,000 meters race at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games.
My favourite shot of the day.
Some runners replenish their energy after the race.
Next up was the mini run, which 1.5k, open to three to eight year olds.
The last two events were my favourites of the day, second last was the family mile which was a one mile run for all the family.
Last was the toddler dash which was a 100m meter dash for kids up to five years old.
Overall it was a great day, I had as much fun documenting the action as the competitors had running. I can’t wait for next year!.
