An ever growing part of my business, is commercial photography for websites, social media and blogs. A lot of people, businesses and website developers, are seeing the benefit of having personalised images to show people what they do, their business premises and also their staff. In the past they may have used generic images taken from the web or worse, taken by themselves. There is nothing worse looking on a website than poor quality images, or images that have no connection with what a business does other than a loose theme.

If you have a business where clients come to you, it is a great idea to have pictures of you and your staff on your website. This allows people who view your website to instantly become familiar with you and your staff, before you even meet them face to face. It also makes your business appear more friendly and approachable, which could make the difference between someone choosing you or your competitors.

An example of this sort of work is when I was asked to do the photography for Let it, letting agents, new website.

They wanted images of the staff, the premises and the staff at work. They have made great use of my images and their website looks fantastic.

Another example are the images I took for Clarity Law Scotland’s new website.

In the past few years social media sites like Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter, have become an integral part of most businesses. Some businesses are getting more hits on their social media pages than their dedicated websites. Yet most still use the sort of images for their profile pictures that they would use on their personal pages. I’m sure you all have seen the sort of pictures I am talking about, usually a head shot cropped out of a picture taken on their last big night out or from last years holiday.

A professionally taken profile picture will make you look more professional and will help you stand out from your competitors and gain more business.

Another area where great photography can help is on blogs. Blogs are a great way to add new, up to date, quality content to your website. A blog with great photography will hold peoples attention a lot better than one without pictures, or with low quality images. A higher quality blog is more likely to be shared by your followers which means your message will reach more people. This is great, free advertising.
